Watch Your Mouth

This message is about a spiritual law. Genesis 8:22 says, "While the earth remaineth seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."

"You Reap What You Sow"

The world likes to talk about "karma" and use the phrases "Oh, karma will get 'em" or "that person has good karma." This idea is derived directly from the Word of God. Galatians 6:7-9 tells us, "Be not deceived; God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh of the flesh shall also reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap if we faint not."

Proverbs 21:23 says, "Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles." (8104 Strong's) keepth (shaw-mar) to hedge about, guard, protect, take heed! Regard, observe.

In Joshua chapter 1 verse 8, the LORD spoke to Joshua saying, "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." (1897 Strong's) meditate (hagah) murmur, mutter, speak, study, talk, utter

God's Word is Seed

In Isaiah 55:11 God says, "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in that thing whereto I sent it."

In Mark 4:14-15, we are told, "The sower soweth the word. And these are they by the wayside, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts."

As we begin to understand the principle of seedtime and harvest, we must realize that whether we are preparing to grow flowers, a garden, or an entire field, there are steps that must be taken to ensure the seed we sow will bear fruit unto harvest.

When it comes to God's word the principle is the same. The word is seed, and when we spend time in His word and allow the Holy Spirit to till the soil of our hearts, that seed then germinates (begins to grow or develop faith), takes root, and eventually manifests itself in our lives in the form of obedience, answered prayer, healing, freedom, deliverance, and all manner of spiritual blessings (harvest).

As we read in Joshua 1:8, we see the word of God shall not depart out of our mouth, but we shall meditate (mutter, utter) therein day and night.

Now faith is entire dependance on the word of God, that that word shall accomplish what the word says it will. In Hebrews 11:1, we are told that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Proverbs 18:21 tells us, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof" and Proverbs 6:2 tells us, "Thou art taken with the words of thy mouth."

The power of our words and the effect they have not only in our own lives but the lives of others is made even clearer as we read what the book of James says in chapter 3 verses 5 and 6: "Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and is set on fire of hell." (1078 Strong's) nature (ghen-nah-o) genesis; from the same as 1074; nativity; fig. nature, nature(al) (1074 Strong's) ghen-eh-ah; a generation; by impl. an age (the period or the persons): age, generation, nation, time

By looking at the word 'nature' in the greek language we get a greater understanding of how much power is in the words we speak. Especially when it comes to speaking and claiming the word of God and His promises.

Ultimately, faith calls us to believe in what we cannot always see, sometimes against all hope. Not only that but we are to ask for and expect the fulfillment of God's word and will in our lives. Jesus makes this perfectly clear in Mark 11:22-23. He first says, "Have faith in God" and then goes on to say, "For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, 'Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea'; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith." By looking at this verse we see that Jesus clearly placed emphasis on what we say!

Do you speak negative words about yourself or other people? Do you bless others with the words that you speak? Are you speaking forth and proclaiming God's plan and purpose for your life, and His will to be done according to his Word?

Find the promises of God for you in His word, the Bible, and take hold of them. Recognize that He requires obedience from you, and have faith in His word, that it will NOT return to Him void, but will accomplish what He has planned and purposed for it.

It's time to move mountains in the name of Jesus!
