Water Baptism

Water Baptism is simply the act of getting totally immersed in water. This means that our whole bodies go under the water. We do this following the example of many people in the Bible, including Jesus.

Just like communion symbolizes Jesus' body being broken for us, and His blood being shed for our sin, water baptism also symbolizes something.

Water baptism is a symbol of us being dead and buried just like Jesus was, and then coming alive again just like He did! When we go down into the water, it is a symbol that we have decided we will follow Jesus and give up our own selfish wants. We die to ourselves and the things our dirt bodies want. When we come up out of the water, it is like being resurrected: coming alive again! We decide to let the Holy Spirit work in us to create the person of holiness that God wants us to be. We walk in newness of spirit.

After you have made up your mind to follow Jesus and have confessed your sin and your need to have the Blood of Jesus cover you, you should then be water baptized.

Even if you are saved and have already received the baptism of the Holy Spirit you should be water baptized if you haven't been already. There is an example for us in Acts where the Holy Spirit fell on a group of people that heard and responded to the message of Jesus, and then Peter ordered that they be baptized in water. Acts 10: 47, 48
