The Shield of Faith

Turtle Protection Object Lesson

Objects Needed: A turtle (or picture or stuffed animal)

Look at the top of this turtle. Have you ever touched the top of a turtle? I am sure you have. It is hard, isn't it? The turtle's shell is it's protection. It is strong enough to keep the turtle safe from falling branches or even other animals. God designed the turtle's shell to protect it from it's enemies.

Have you ever snuck up on a turtle? What happens when the turtle sees you for the first time? The turtle hides himself inside his shell. He pulls his head, legs and tail inside. He does not know for sure what you may do. He knows what his shell will do; it will protect him. He knows that he will be safe from his enemy. He trusts his shell to protect him.

God has designed protection for Christians, too. The Armor of God. When you dress yourself in this armor, you put on your Shield of Faith. God's Shield is so big that it completely covers you. You can hide behind this Shield like the turtle hides in his shell. You are protected from your enemy's darts and bullets when you trust your Shield to protect you. When you put your faith, or trust, in God to protect you, you know that you are safe from your enemy, satan.

Satan will shoot fiery arrows of fear and discouragement at you. He will try to tell you that you are nothing. You need to know that those fiery feelings are not coming from God. When you put on your Shield of Faith, you are trusting that God will take care of you and loves you beyond measure. His Shield covers you with protection.

Here's a turtle craft for the younger ones:

Use dark green and regular green construction paper for making the turtle.
Cut out the body parts and glue together. You may glue on wiggly eyes, which
is always a hit with kids, or use a marker to draw the eyes. Draw marking on
the shell with a marker.
